Ak-Chin Youth STEM Day

On February 18, 2022, Hesperus, in partnership with the United States Military Academy at West Point’s Center for Leadership and Diversity in STEM (CLD-STEM), led both a spherical robotics workshop and leadership and ethics program for middle and high school students as part of the USMA Leadership Ethics and Diversity in STEM (LEADS) program. What a great way to begin President’s Day weekend!

Students, cadets, and staff all had a great time as we learned about STEM, leadership, and ethical decision making. Hosted by the Ak-Chin Indian Community near Maricopa, Arizona, this workshop is the first in this partnership, and is the first youth STEM and leadership program of its kind for Hesperus and USMA that focuses solely on Native American and Alaska Native students.

This is the first workshop in the Hesperus-USMA partnership, and we look forward to bringing more programs to Native American and Alaska Native youth around STEM and leadership topics. Thank you to Procter & Gamble, Dell Technologies, and the Salt River Project for their support of this event.
